Face Massage Therapy

Your face reflects your well being – let your calm shine through. A face massage is a gentle and effective technique that addresses muscle and fascial imbalances, and overall tissue health. Plus, it feels heavenly!

Face Massage Therapy combines my training in sculptural face lifting and lymphatic drainage massage techniques. The rhythmic method is a combination of gentle and firmer upward strokes - addressing the face, neck and décolletage.

The treatment includes an intra-oral component, performed with gloved hands, that massages the interior of the mouth and cheek areas. This helps ease tension and tissue restrictions in the jaw muscles while stimulating lymphatic flow.

The massage enhances circulation, increasing oxygen delivery and essential nutrients to facial tissues. Clients experience both physical relaxation and a visibly refreshed appearance.

  • Keep up appearances

Our faces tell the stories of our lives, each line representing our unique journey and experiences. They are beautiful reminders of the paths we’ve taken and the choices we’ve made along the way. Embracing these features is a celebration of our individuality and the rich tapestry of our lives.

Just like the rest of our body, our face, neck, and décolletage naturally change as we age and experience life. Over time, some facial muscles may become tense while others lose their tone, and our skin can start to look tired, puffy, or less firm than it once did. As we get older, our lymphatic system works less efficiently, circulation slows, and our body produces less collagen while dealing with more inflammation and water retention. Since we already know how good massage feels for our body, why not give our face the same care it deserves?

  • Focus on your concerns

From start to finish, this massage feels good. I had a client say to me once post-treatment, “I am both relaxed and energized right now. I feel like I could run a marathon, and I never run!”

I'll design your treatment around exactly what your face needs most. Whether you're looking for some relaxing self-care or want to target specific concerns like general fatigue, puffiness, or jaw tension, we'll focus on what matters most to you.

  • Build emotional awareness

This approach includes the whole face, but also the mimic muscles – the small muscles we use countless times each day to express emotions, whether we speak or not.

By working on these muscles, massage not only aims to enhance your well-being but also to influence the mind-body connection, empowering you to embrace both inner and outer beauty.

Reduce puffiness

Face massage therapy helps reduce water retention by encouraging lymphatic flow throughout your face and neck. This gentle drainage technique removes excess fluid and metabolic waste that can accumulate in your skin and surrounding tissues. By reducing inflammation and improving nutrient delivery, this process enhances your skin's health and overall appearance.

Relax tense facial muscles

Just as we hold tension in our shoulders from hunching over a desk, our faces naturally hold the patterns of our daily expressions and emotions we feel. When we repeatedly make certain facial expressions, experience injuries like whiplash, or clench our jaw from stress, these muscles can become tight and uncomfortable. Facial massage can provide relief by releasing deep tension and reducing pain, whether it stems from habitual patterns, trauma, or ongoing stress.

Taking care of YOU

As an RMT, I believe in being honest about what facial massage can and can't do. While fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of aging that only surgical procedures can permanently alter, facial massage offers something equally valuable - a healthy, nurturing approach to wellness and self-care.

Some estheticians promote face massage techniques like Sculptural Face Lifting Method as alternatives to injectables. While I've trained in and adapted this training for my RMT practice, I prefer to focus on what massage excels at: supporting your skin's natural lymphatic health, maintaining healthy muscles and connective tissue, and helping you feel more connected to your wellness routine.

My clients may notice improvements in their overall appearance, but perhaps more importantly, they feel empowered by choosing to nurture a part of themselves they see every day. It's about honouring your face with the same attention you'd give the rest of your body.

What you can expect

This massage combines flowing, rhythmic movements with energizing techniques to your face
and neck. We begin by gently stimulating your lymphatic system, focusing on key drainage
points around your neck, under your arms, and beneath your jaw. Next, you'll enjoy 40 minutes
of external massage targeting your face and neck, followed by 15 minutes of therapeutic
intra-oral work on your cheek and mouth muscles. Your session concludes with a relaxing scalp
massage and the soothing warmth of a hot towel treatment.

“To do this technique properly, you must always do it beautifully with honesty and pure intention.”

Yakov Gershkovich, renowned Russian esthetician and developer of the Sculptural Face Lifting method

Reasons to Book a Face Massage

To lift your spirits and your face, the RMT way

Muscle pain and fatigue is heavy - I feel it in people’s cheeks and faces daily. This method focuses on muscle and tissue imbalances of the neck and face, improving skin health, lymphatic drainage, and softening the signs of stress and fatigue. Overall, it promotes well-being, and boosts confidence.

For the feeling of relaxation

The intention is to affect the proprioceptors of the muscles and connective tissue. The lifting and kneading movements are rhythmical and constant. Unscented shea butter provides enough slide to perform the technique as it needs to. The treatment finishes with a scalp massage and a hot towel on the face and décolletage.

To give you a healthy glow

Massage stimulates the lymphatic system to drain excess fluid and waste, allowing blood circulation to deliver micronutrients. Your skin will be healthier-looking, more hydrated, and less puffy.

For the therapeutic benefits

Face massage therapy may be therapeutic for the following conditions: post-stroke or palsy, non-inflamed sinusitis and sinus congestion; jaw tension; headaches; and more.

Face massage therapy is a caring gift for yourself. You will feel less pain, better movement, invigorated, and more content. It’s like a gentle workout for your face!

Top 5 FAQs for Face Massage Therapy

  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

I understand that plans can change! You may cancel or reschedule your massage appointment free of charge – as long as you give at least 48 hours' notice. Simply log into your online booking portal or give the clinic a call to make the change.

  • How often should I get a face massage treatment?

As often as you want! Weekly or monthly face massage treatment sessions are both beneficial. Regular treatments help reduce stress, tension, increase circulation and minimize swelling.

If weekly visits aren't feasible, every 2-3 weeks is good for wellbeing and many other benefits - treating your face, neck and scalp to a massage is the ultimate self-care.

  • Can I have a face massage if I have facial hair?

Yes, this treatment is do-able if you have facial hair. However, the focus will be on other parts of your face and neck.

For the most effective treatment, I recommend arriving with a clean-shaven face or neatly-trimmed beard. While facial hair doesn't prevent you from receiving a massage, shorter hair allows better access to your facial muscles and tissues, especially around the jawline and for any intraoral work, which are key components of the therapeutic session.

  • What is intra-oral massage?

Intra-oral massage involves me wearing vinyl gloves while I manipulate muscles and tissues inside the mouth, the cheeks and jaw area - using kneading and an upward lifting motions. This is a relaxing treatment, though sometimes the technique is quite vigorous. This helps relieve tension from headaches, jaw tightness, teeth grinding, dental work, and more! It's typically not painful - I've even had clients fall asleep. Many clients say they feel more space in their face and cheeks afterward – they feel lighter.
